Zouave uniform.

When the Civil War started, some volunteers reported for duty in uniforms of their own design. Many copied the French Algerian Zouaves. Here, Grace Erhart wears the uniform of the 114th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry.

In the plotting room

Fort De Soto Park docent Barbara Rowell explains the function of the plotting room. She finishes by describing the relative safety and comfort enjoyed by the men who were assigned to the plotting room; by contrast the men in the gun crews had to work under under much more dangerous and difficult conditions. Barbara (a former math teacher) points out, "those who know their math get the best jobs".
