The ovens in the bakery were supported by a concrete base. Take a look at the
sides of this base and you'll see thousands of sea shells in the concrete. When
Fort De Soto was being constructed, they had no aggregate (gravel) for the concrete
mix. So they substituted sea shells--with great success!
