The captain's quarters cost almost $10,000 to build. The quarters were heated not only by stoves, but also by fireplaces. It had two floors and an attic and a total floor space of 4,770 sq. ft. The building was wired for electric lights, but since there was not a generator available for the post buildings, oil lamps were used.
