During the weekend of April 29th and 30th, Nearly 1,000 spectators enjoyed visiting Fort De Soto Park for a Civil War Reenactment and Encampment. More than 130 reenactors, including sutlers (who sell authentic and reproduction items from the period) and horses took part in the activities which included drills and a battle each day. Visitors were able to visit both Union and Confederate camps, which were set up as they would have been in the Civil War era.

On Saturday evening the costumed reenactors danced the night away with such popular dances of the period as the Virginia Reel and the Cumberland reel.

The event was sponsored by: The 97th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, Shawn Butler, President, Friends of Fort De Soto and Fort De Soto Park.

George Moor, who portrays General Stonewall Jackson in Civil War events and General Joseph Wheeler in Spanish American War events, coordinated the activities with Shawn Butler.
