"trapdoor" Springfield


Robin Mitchell holds a 45-70 caliber Model 1873 single-shot "trapdoor" Springfield Rifle. These single-shot rifles were mainly carried by the volunteer state troops and National Guard units during the Spanish AmericanWar.

U.S. Regular Army troops carried the Model 1896 or Model 1898 30-40 caliber Krag Rifle or Carbine, which was a five-shot bolt action repeating weapon.
